Brokering Creativity: Reflecting on a Decade of Arts Development Practice
This presentation emerges from a developing research collaboration between cultural broker Jock McQueenie and researchers at the Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney. The collaboration parallels the conference aim of creating an agenda for the arts which positions them powerfully in relation to the often competing and intersecting agendas of economy, society and technology.
The paper is structured around a conceptually contextualised critical reflection on several case studies drawn from more than 10 years of cultural brokerage which has broken new ground in business/community/arts partnerships. Demonstrating in practical terms the transformative potential of the arts, McQueenie's approach synthesises innovative custom-designed arts projects which 'join the dots' of diverse stakeholder agendas and perspectives.
